i give up
the first Isaac Martinez album
the first album released under my government name, this was retroactively classified as the first album in the TOURNAMENT series. it was recorded in about 2 weeks using various musical scraps lying around. it was the culmination of an experimental period of work titled "keepmeinmind". some of the scraps date back to 2020 and some of the writing dates back to 2015, specifically "easy way out" and "Wesley Willis". the song "and soon I will have a job..." contains a sample of "All Blues" by Miles Davis. I sat at the coffee shop my wife was working at and replayed that beat 100 times until I finally gave up and just used the cleanest take. some of the tracks are entirely freestyled, I will leave it up to you to figure out which ones. I initially intended on releasing this under the name keepmeinmind, but last minute decided it should just be under my name. it represents a lot about me. every story on here is true. "bizarre night of the soul" is about being on my phone instead of spending time with my wife. "disassemble" is about working at a coffee shop. "product of my environment" is sped up in a varispeed.
